Zach Sciacca, better known as DJ Z-Trip, was born on July 22, 1971, and is an American DJ and producer from Phoenix. He is recognized as a pioneer of the mashup movement, and his catalog of collaborations reflects a career that has moved across genre lines rather than settling into a single sound.
As a producer, Z-Trip has worked with artists including LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Kasabian and Dan the Automator. His hip-hop connections run deep: he collaborated with Talib Kweli on the mixtape Attack the Block. In 2009, he received the America’s Best DJ Award, and by 2012 he was also featured as LL Cool J’s touring DJ. That same year, he launched a new mixer with Rane and Serato called the 62-Z.
Taken together, those credits show a DJ and producer equally invested in collaboration, live performance and the tools of the trade. The mashup ethos that earned him recognition as a pioneer continues to sit alongside his work with rap artists and genre-spanning collaborators, making him a figure whose influence is felt both behind the boards and on stage.
