Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli Greene emerged from Brooklyn as a rapper whose reputation was built on clarity and substance before his first solo full-length ever landed. In 1997, he paired with fellow Brooklyn rapper Mos Def to form Black Star, and the duo’s 1998 single “Definition” reached the Billboard Hot 100. Their self-titled debut album followed the same year and entered the Billboard 200, cementing the pair as a singular force. Though both members moved toward solo careers, Black Star would reunite for No Fear of Time in 2022.

Kweli’s solo catalogue demonstrates a steady, deliberate arc. The early releases Quality (2002) and Next (2002) established him as a presence beyond the group context. He continued through a prolific period marked by Liberation (2006), the expansive Eardrum (2007), and Revolutions Per Minute (2010). The following years brought Gutter Rainbows (2011) and the mixed-tape release We Run This, Vol. 7 (2012), the latter credited to Mr. E of RPS Fam. Throughout his recordings, Kweli’s voice stays grounded in an authorial calm—measured, deliberate, and unafraid of density.
