ScHoolboy Q: biography, discography and legacy in the Genzeta Clips archive.

Quincy Matthew Hanley, the American rapper known as ScHoolboy Q, began recording in 2007, and his first two mixtapes — ScHoolboy Turned Hustla (2008) and Gangsta & Soul (2009) — built local momentum before he signed with Top Dawg Entertainment, the Carson-based independent label. Wiesbaden is listed as his origin.

Setbacks (2011) and Habits & Contradictions (2012) followed, both drawing positive critical response and performing moderately on the Billboard 200 as digital exclusives. His major-label debut, Oxymoron (2014) on Interscope, topped the Billboard 200, and its singles did the heavy lifting: “Collard Greens,” with Kendrick Lamar, went quadruple platinum and gave him his first Hot 100 entry, while “Studio,” with BJ the Chicago Kid, went triple platinum and cracked the top 40. Guest turns on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s “White Walls” (2013) and Tinashe’s “2 On” (2014) extended his chart run.

Blank Face LP (2016) and CrasH Talk (2019) both landed in the top three and drew continued praise; Blue Lips (2024) peaked at number 13 and saw universal acclaim. A member of the California-based group Black Hippy alongside Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar, he has collected five Grammy nominations, with a seventh album, Thank Que, scheduled for 2027.
