Open Mike Eagle

Open Mike Eagle—born Michael W. Eagle II in 1980—is an American rapper, record producer, and comedian. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, he is now based in Los Angeles, California, where he is part of the hip hop collective Project Blowed. Over the years he has also been a member of Thirsty Fish, Swim Team, and Cavanaugh, balancing solo work with those group affiliations.

His catalog is restless and self-aware, moving from the early Art Rap After Party and Unapologetic Art Rap through the reissue of Rappers Will Die of Natural Causes and 4nml Hsptl. Later albums like Brick Body Kids Still Daydream, What Happens When I Try to Relax, The New Negroes (Season 1 Soundtrack), Anime, Trauma and Divorce, Component System with the Auto Reverse, and another triumph of ghetto engineering show an artist who keeps refining his voice. Whether rapping, producing, or working in comedy, Open Mike Eagle treats rap as an art form worth interrogating—and enjoying—from every angle.
