Masego

Masego — the professional name of Micah Davis — has carved a lane where the saxophone feels as natural as a drum machine. Carrying both Jamaican and American musical sensibilities, he brings an instrumentalist’s discipline to the genre-fluid territory of progressive R&B and trap-soul. His 2016 EPs, Loose Thoughts and the Medasin collaboration The Pink Polo EP, introduced a producer-vocalist hybrid equally at home in live arrangements and digital textures.

Widespread attention arrived in 2017 with “Tadow,” a collaborative record with FKJ that plays like an improvised studio conversation. Masego’s debut album Lady Lady (2018) sharpened that easy, ceremonial quality—part slow-groove, part confession. He expanded the framework on Studying Abroad (2020) and its extended companion suite, Studying Abroad: Extended Stay (2021), the latter earning a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. More recent releases—Masego (2023) and Fix Your Face (2026)—show him still in motion, his core identity intact: one artist whose playing, singing, and writing function as a single unbroken gesture.
