Kanii

Born in Washington, D.C., in August 2005, Kanii—born Kani Nkshon Shorter Jr.—first placed music online in 2018 with the SoundCloud track “So Long.” His profile grew significantly in August 2022, when “Attachment (She Wanna Love)” went viral on TikTok, bringing him a wider audience. That momentum translated into more formal recognition the following year.

The single “I Know” became his commercial breakthrough, peaking at number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving a gold certification from the RIAA. His debut EP, Exiit, released later in 2023, entered the Billboard Top Dance Albums chart at number 10. The project also produced two Hot Dance/Electronic-charting singles, “Go” and “Heart Racing.” In November 2023, Kanii issued his seventh EP, It Was Nice Knowing U, a release that underscored how rapidly his catalog had developed since the SoundCloud days.

His discography continued with The Heart Racers in 2024 and #BLUE in 2025. Across these projects, Kanii has moved between singer, songwriter, and rapper roles without settling into a single format, maintaining the kind of release pace and cross-genre visibility that began online but now registers in the mainstream charts.
