Jeezy

Jeezy emerged from Columbia with a voice that defined a decade of Southern street rap. Widely credited alongside T.I. and Gucci Mane for bringing trap music to the mainstream, he first built a following through independent releases before linking with Def Jam for his 2005 major-label debut. That record’s double-platinum status made him a commercial force, but his authority came as much from the streets as from the charts.

His second and third LPs each topped the Billboard 200, while The Recession and its Kanye West-assisted single “Put On” earned a Grammy nomination. Jeezy’s discography is built on consistency—projects like The Real Is Back and Seen It All: The Autobiography maintained his brand of frosty production and preachy cockiness. Platinum hits with Akon, Nas, Plies, and Ne-Yo extended his reach, while high-profile features on Usher’s “Love in This Club” and Rihanna’s “Hard” made him an inescapable guest. As the de facto leader of U.S.D.A. and a former Boyz n da Hood member, he also built a mogul lane through CTE World, signing YG and Freddie Gibbs. A true architect of the trap era, Jeezy remains its conscience and its ambassador.
