There are few figures in the UK underground as deliberately obscured as EsDeeKid. The Liverpool rapper performs in a balaclava, guarding his name, appearance and age with a discipline that feels almost anti-industry, even as his music pushes outward from the scene that birthed him. His identity is carried instead by his voice — a thick Scouse accent laid over cloud-rap textures that gives his delivery a distinct, drifting quality. He remains rooted in the council house he still calls home, a detail that reads less like biography and more like aesthetic position.

That tension between the local and the viral defined his breakthrough. Rebel, his debut mixtape, arrived in June 2025 and moved through European charts before landing at number 23 on the US Billboard 200 — nearly five months after release, a slow-burn trajectory that mirrors the album’s quiet pull. By May 2026, his Rico Ace collaboration “Phantom” had passed 300 million streams.

The mythology grew stranger from there. Listeners began joking that EsDeeKid was Timothée Chalamet’s alter ego; the resemblance was enough to fuel memes, and sufficiently real that Chalamet later joined him on a remix of “4 Raws.” In an era of overshared biography, EsDeeKid offers only the music and the mask.
