Diplo: biography, discography and legacy in the Genzeta Clips archive.

Thomas Wesley “Wes” Pentz Jr., born November 10, 1978, records as Diplo—a name shortened from Diplodocus, a nod to a childhood fascination with dinosaurs. The American DJ and producer broke through in 2008 with “Blow Your Head,” then built a career that keeps one foot in the club and the other in pop’s upper reaches. He founded Mad Decent in 2006 and Heaps Decent in 2007, and his 2013 EP Revolution reached No. 68 on the US Billboard 200; its title track later appeared in a Hyundai commercial and on the WWE 2K16 soundtrack.

Diplo’s collaborative reach is the story. He worked with and dated M.I.A., producing her 2008 breakout “Paper Planes.” With Switch he formed Major Lazer, the electronic dancehall project and FXX cartoon that released five studio albums. He is also a member of LSD with Labrinth and Sia, Jack Ü with Skrillex, and Silk City with Mark Ronson. His production and guest credits span Drake, Beyoncé, Madonna, BTS, Bad Bunny, the Weeknd, and many more; in 2016 he produced tracks for Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
