D Smoke

D Smoke, born Daniel Anthony Farris in Inglewood, California, is an American rapper and former educator whose breakthrough came as the winner of Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow in 2019. That platform could have made him a one-season name, but he moved quickly: Inglewood High arrived that same year, and his independent debut album, Black Habits, followed in 2020. The album earned nominations for Best Rap Album and Best New Artist at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards—a rare double recognition for an independent artist. His background in education remains part of the story, giving his rise a different texture from the usual competition-winner arc.

He kept building with War & Wonders and Black Habits (Deluxe) in 2021, then signed with Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Records in 2023. That signing marked a new chapter after his independent run, while he continued to write from an Inglewood perspective. In 2025 he released Wake Up Supa, extending a catalog that balances competition-stage polish with the voice of an artist rooted in his city.
