Chance The Rapper

Chance the Rapper came out of Chicago with a joyful, gospel-tinted sound and a refusal to follow the standard major-label path. After his early 10 Day tape, he gained widespread recognition with Acid Rap, a second mixtape that made him a leading figure in his city’s hip-hop scene and a symbol of what an independent artist could do. He turned that momentum into history with Coloring Book, the first streaming-only project to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album; its single “No Problem” also took Best Rap Performance.

The years since have confirmed the scope beyond mixtapes. His debut album, The Big Day, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and his feature work—from “Ultralight Beam” to DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One”—kept him in the mainstream conversation without diluting his profile. Alongside his role as lead vocalist of the Social Experiment and member of Savemoney, he has stacked three Grammys, three BET Awards, and a Soul Train Music Award, and he has become one of hip-hop’s highest-grossing touring acts. He also put his name behind public education advocacy in Chicago, served as a judge on Rhythm + Flow and as a coach on The Voice, and returned in 2025 with his second album, Star Line.
