Dwight Equan Grant, better known as Beanie Sigel, is an American rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is best known for his association with Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records, to which he signed in 1998. His debut studio album, The Truth (2000), was met with critical and commercial success, peaking at number five on the Billboard 200.
Grant was the de facto leader of State Property, the Philadelphia-based hip-hop collective formed in 2000 with other Roc-A-Fella labelmates. He starred in the group’s self-titled film, and “Roc the Mic” with Freeway—his sole Billboard Hot 100 entry—was the lead single from its soundtrack (2002). The Reason (2001) and The B.Coming (2005) both debuted in the Billboard 200’s top five; the latter spawned “Feel It in the Air,” his signature song. The Solution (2007) was his final Roc-A-Fella release, followed by self-released albums The Broad Street Bully (2009) and This Time (2012). Since 2002, he has faced legal issues and publicized court trials; as of 2024, he has been arrested at least six times and served about four years in federal or state prison.
