Atmosphere

Minneapolis Hip-hop

Atmosphere: biography, discography and legacy in the Genzeta Clips archive.

Atmosphere is the Minneapolis hip-hop duo of rapper Slug (Sean Daley) and DJ/producer Ant (Anthony Davis). Formed in 1996, the group built its identity around Slug’s writing and Ant’s production; Ant has produced every Atmosphere record except a few tracks on Lucy Ford. Original member Spawn (Derek Turner) left after the release of the group’s first album, Overcast!, leaving the duo to carry the project forward.

The group has released thirteen studio albums and ten extended plays. The catalog includes The Taste of Rain… Why Kneel (1999), Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EP’s (2001), Headshots: Se7en (2005), You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having (2007), God Loves Ugly (2007), Overcast! (2007), When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (2008), The Family Sign (2011), and Seven’s Travels (2012). Through it all, the pairing of Slug’s voice and Ant’s beats remains the group’s constant, a Minneapolis partnership with a deep and steadily built body of work.
