6LACK
6LACK: biography, discography and legacy in the Genzeta Clips archive.
Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr., who records as 6LACK, has spent the better part of a decade turning introspection into slow-burning anthems. Born in Baltimore and raised in Atlanta, he emerged through Love Renaissance and Interscope after “Prblms” became his first Billboard Hot 100 entry. His debut album Free 6lack was certified platinum and nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the Grammys, establishing a voice that sits at the intersection of R&B and rap.
The follow-up East Atlanta Love Letter peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and deepened his connection with streaming audiences; the Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign collaboration “OTW” went double platinum. 2020 brought the 6pc Hot EP, featuring “Know My Rights” with Lil Baby, while “Calling My Phone” with Lil Tjay became his highest-charting single, peaking at number three on the Hot 100 and atop the Canadian chart. His 2023 album Since I Have a Lover arrived after years of growing visibility, and he has continued to release companion EPs and acoustic material. Throughout, 6LACK has drawn on his place within the Atlanta-Baltimore collective Spillage Village, with five Grammy nominations affirming his position as a patient, emotionally direct singer in the modern R&B landscape.
